Prison Weekly 3 Tevet, 5771

Vayigash

This week, our Torah portion is called Vayigash, which means "And he came near."  It opens with Judah coming near to Joseph but then it contains the account of Joseph coming near to his brothers and it ends with Jacob finally coming near to his long lost son, Joseph.

"Then came near" begins our passage this week.  It refers, in this opening, to Judah's approach to Joseph.  He pleads with his brother to not hold Benjamin captive while they return to Israel because of the reaction their father would have at the loss of Joseph's physical brother after loosing him years ago, according to the story that the remaining brothers had told their father.  Moved with compassion, Joseph can no longer carry on his deception and commands all of the servants to leave him alone with these Israelites who had come seeking food.  In chapter 45, the first verse discloses that Joseph disclosed himself to his brothers. Now, considering that this man before them was a stranger and an Egyptian one at that, as far as they could tell.  Then for him to tell them who he was must have been incredible.  But this passage has some real deep meaning and implications for the future salvation of all Israel.  You see, according to the Rabbis, just as Joseph revealed himself to the descendents of Jacob, whose name was now Israel, so too will the Messiah reveal Himself to all of Israel's children at His appointed time. And, furthermore, as Joseph brought his family into the finest land known in the world at that time, as as he provided them with everything they needed and with splendor, so too shall Messiah do for Israel.  To this teaching, I can only add, "Come soon, L-rd Messiah and reveal yourself to Your people, Israel."

Keep praying. Marty

Mission Updates:

Greetings,

The tax extension and the future extensions on unemployment should be a good thing for the people. Maybe now with the new congress and these things happening it will also translate into donations picking up.  Just before and I mean just before Thanksgiving we had numerous donations come in and it helped very much. We did get a newsletter out in the mail and some donations have come in which again are helpful. We have plenty of over the counter medications for right now so that is a very good thing.  We are how ever in need of your help, I am over do on one of the radio programs, it also would be nice to completely catch up before the end of the year all the Mission church Utilities and mission phone. It would be nice to see this before the 23rd so please pray for us.  My wife and I will celebrate our 25 wedding anniversary on December 23rd. I am not sure what I am going to do as we wanted to renew our vows but I am unsure of finding a preacher to do that, money (not ministry donations) I was counting on has not come in, it may still but it is getting very close. I need to get her a new ring as the one she wore for years finally fell a part. We have each other and that is what counts. About the car that was donated, some asked about it so here we go, it will take some money to get it going, yes he could have sold it for some money but he owes another $100 before he can even get the title. He will I am sure and I said if I had the money I would help him. The care needs much tlc before it can be driven etc.  The needs here are great and it is ongoing.....as more and more people show up......

Thanks for all you do, lift us in prayer and help if you can,

In His Perfect Peace,
Pastor Dan Catlin

Acts 2:38-39 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, [even] as many as the Lord our God shall call.

Shalom In Yeshua our Messiah

Good News is  I have been able to catch up a little on the bills however I still have a pretty big pile of them left here to pay. I'm praying to get everything completely paid up before January 1.
We have been packed elbow to elbow standing room only every Tuesday and Friday for the past few months even at the first of the month. We been feeding any where between ten to fifteen dozen egg sandwhiches and serving from sixty to ninety plates for dinner. The children who come have been able to get clothing and toys Praise Yahweh. But we need diapers and wipes of all sizes but size 4 to 6 seem to be the most in need. I really need to make a trip to Sams and stock the mission but Yahweh will provide so I will just say please seek Him and ask if your a vessel to this ministry that He is waitig to use. I'm running out of time an I still have several things I need to get done before we head into town to feed so I'm gonna cut this short an Say Shabbat Shalom I pray you all a very restful and peaceful Sabbath.
