Prison Weekly Adar 12, 5770

Tetzaveh

This week's Torah portion is from Exodus 27:20 through 30:10 and it deals with the ordination of Aaron and his sons for the service of G-d as His priests.  Inasmuch as we are the priests of the L-rd in this time, perhaps we should pay special attention to this passage.  It begins with G-d's instruction to keep a light lit at all times in front of the veil which hid the Presence of HaShem.  It seems a bit odd that the parashah begins at the end of a chapter, but I think that this is a very important detail that G-d did not want us to overlook as we read it as a closing, so He made it His opening remark. Most of the passage deals with the making of the garments and with the sacrifices required, but there are a couple of interesting details that may seem obscure and inconsequential, but these little gems are often the overlooked points that make such a difference in our walk.  Keeping the light lit is certainly an important aspect of our role as priests.  So is the last instruction given in this portion.  It deals with the burning of incense.  Revelation calls our prayers a savory incense in the nostrils of HaShem.  Certainly this is a major obligation of the priesthood that we must fulfill. One last little detail that I have a particular interest in is found in the central part of the parashah.  It is in chapter 29 verse 7 & 8 that we find, "Then you shall take the anointing oil and pour it on his head and anoint him."  You do know about the oil that we blend according to the only recipe in the Bible.  That oil is made exclusively for the priests and it is the very oil that was commanded by G-d to be used in the ordination of Aaron.  It is the oil spoken of in Psalm 133 as the oil that runs down Aaron's beard to the fringe of his garments. This is not a commercial for oil, rather, it is a very pointed remark that even though Aaron had been chosen by G-d and had been set apart for His service; only when he had the anointing was he considered ready for that service.  Too often, we fail to minister to the L-rd although we may be fully anointed to do so.  Too often, we expect our pastors to function in many ways that are not consistent with his anointing. Once the priest was anointed and properly dressed, he was able to make the acceptable sacrifice to make atonement for his own sin, the sin of his household and only then, could he make the sacrifice for the sin of the nation.  Baruch haShem; Y'shua has made all of the sacrifice required for us, for our households and even for the nation and for the world.  We must operate in His anointing and accept our role as His priest, representing the people before Him in intercession and representing Him to the people in our daily walk of witness. We must keep the Light of the world shining brightly and must allow fragrant incense to ascend into the very Nostrils of G-d in heaven every morning and every evening.  We are His priests and we have all of the anointing that He requires if we will only walk in His way and rise up to call Him blessed.
Shabbat shalom.

The Ballad of Mayer

Permit me to tell you
A marvelous tale
Of a simple Jew
And his "Ahavas Yisrael"

On the way to work
Early Wednesday morn
On the bus to New York
Where Tallis and Tefillin are worn

Our hero Mayer
By the window seat
Was deep in prayer
Which is no small feat

Squeezed like sardines
Pressed shoulder to shoulder
The bus bounces and careens
Both younger and older

As the time for Shema Yisrael
All too rapidly came near
Mayer heard the wail
"Shema!" as the bus moved into high gear!

Still four steps behind
Mayer now grabbed the Tsitsis
To see and remind him
To keep all the Mitzvos

Mayer was jolted
As the bus hit a bump
And rocked as it halted
And all stood in a jump.

But Mayer sat still
Grasping the Tsitsis
While with all his will
He graced them with kisses

'Till a cry was heard,
Shouting, "Nu!?-Nu!?-Nu!?"
Without a word
From his neighboring Jew

Mayer held the Tsitsis
With such devotion and labor
But they weren't his
They belonged to his neighbor!

Isn't it true?
When you hear such a story
You wish it was you
To grab all the glory

Such a Tzadik Mayer
It really hits ya-
While deep in prayer
Loving the other Jew's Mitzvah!

Mission Updates;

Repentance, the Devil is under my Feet

Revelation 12:10

10And I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, Now is come salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of his Messiah: for the accuser of our brethren is cast down, which accused them before our God day and night. 11And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death.

Revelation 12:17

17And the dragon was wroth with the woman, and went to make war with the remnant of her seed, which keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Yeshua Ha Mesciah.

Greetings,

Today I heard from one of the guys that we were shutting down and he wanted to know why?  Astonished I asked him why he thought that? I then came to realize that it has to be coming from me being negative on the net, I have been letting Satan that ol devil get me down and it has been coming out in my speech.

My faith is stronger than that, what the Father has showed me for this ministry has not came to fullness yet, I know He does not lie and His word is good.

So I rebuke satan, I know that my Father will not fail me as I have not yet ful-filled His whole purpose, so I repent of being negative…..

Thanks for all your help and the newsletter did get printed and will go out today! We will stop when He says we are done and not until, I will use every once of my being to ful-fil His word, or die trying, and if I am gone my family will gone on though my wife and sons…….

Lift us in prayer, help if you can

This weeks Portions are for Shabbat Adar 5, 5770

Exodus 27:20-30:10
Haftarah Ezekiel 43:10:27 Brit Hadasha Mark 12
Next Weeks Torah Ki Tisa "When you Take" Exodus 30:11-34:35 Haftarah 1 Kings 18:1-39 Brit Hadasha 1 Corinthians 8:4-13

Terumah Exodus 25:1-27:19
This week's parasha is called Terumah which means "offering". It is the account of Moses commanding the children of Israel to bring a portion of all that they have as an offering to the L-rd and it tells exactly how the Tabernacle should be built. Nothing was left to chance or to the design of men; G-d gave Moses exact plans for every little detail. Today, my message will focus on only one detail; that of the poles that were to be made a separate pieces of the arc of the covenant, but that were to never be removed. Carrying this arc was no easy task; it would be been so much easier if G-d had instructed them to make some beautiful wheels upon which it would roll as they traveled for all those years. But G-d had something else in mind. You se, in ancient times, rulers were always carried by strong men in palanquins, platforms ornately decorated that was born on the shoulders of strong men. G-d insisted that He too be lifted high above the children of Israel as to be continually worshipped by them.

When you see most replicas of the arc, you notice that the poles are affixed toward the top of the arc. This would allow the weight of the load to be centered between the men carrying it and make it seem lighter than it was. But, according to scripture, this is not the place of the poles at all. No, they were to be affixed to the feet of the sacred box. The entire weight of the arc was lifted high above the people who walked beside it and its presence was seen by those far off as well as those who were nearby. Nothing was ever higher than the Presence of G-d, and that is our lesson today. We carry our Bibles sometimes, usually in a pretty case or under our arms. No one really notices it. And we carry the Presence of G-d hidden in our hearts, so that only the few we are "led" to share with every know whom we follow. Beloved, it is time to lift up the Presence of G-d high enough that no one can miss Him. We must live so that He is evident in everything we do and in everyplace we go. No more sneaking into places where we don't want to be recognized, the Presence of G-d is high above us and He shall be made known everywhere He leads us. Raise up His Presence so that no one may ever fall behind or become lost along the way.

Keep praying. Marty

Question: Why are there so many details on the building of the Tabernacle, yet hardly any details regarding the creation of the world and us?

Answer: It is important to keep in mind that the Torah was given primarily for the purpose of giving over a concrete message, and an eternal covenant from G-d, to the Jewish people. It is not a history of the natural world and its inhabitants. In truth, although the secrets of creation are cloaked within the Torah, that is only a function of the Torah's infinite depths and not its main purpose. It makes sense that the details of the Tabernacle are drawn out, seeing that it is a direct commandment to the Jewish people on how to bring G-d's Divine presence into their lives! From a literal standpoint, the Tabernacle was the place in which G-d "rested" His presence amongst the Jewish people, later to be manifest in the Holy Temple of Jerusalem.

Allegorically, every detail of the Tabernacle has applicability to our lives. For example, the Ark, which housed the tablets of the Ten Commandments and the Torah, had a wooden frame. However, it was to be covered by pure gold, inside and out. This teaches, that someone who wishes to be a worthy vessel of G-d's word must have purity and sincerity of thought that matches his or her actions (i.e. you must be pure – both inside and out). Furthermore, note how the vessels of the Tabernacle were carried by staffs which were placed through loops attached to the vessels. In the case of the Ark alone, there is a commandment that the staffs may never be removed. This alludes to how a person should view the Torah—constantly a fundamental part of his or her life, in every realm of existence. It seems that volumes could be written regarding the meaning and function of the Tabernacle. To be quite honest, I learn something new about it every year. Perhaps the central idea we can take away is this: "Make for Me a Tabernacle and I will dwell amongst you" (Exodus 25:8) can be homiletically understood that each one of us has the ability to make room for G-d in our hearts and in our lives; and if we do, G-d will surely fill that space.

Best wishes, R' Daniel Fleksher
Mission updates: May you have a Blessed Sabbath!

Greetings Saints, We got $1,200 in the mail today in which mom was able to pay a percent on shut offs that were over-do, it remains the same Yahweh has never failed us, he always comes through! We are still not out of the woods by any means. The person that called us to help called back and left a number, I called him and missed him also, so it seems like phone tag, yuk, yuk. I am praying that he calls my cell phone tomorrow as we still need his help.
We still have not gotten radio paid, internet needed for radio etc, and some other things remain unpaid. If I can get the newsletter out next week so the people on the list get it before the end of February then things should become right as March is most generally our best month for donations.
Mom did also buy some meat for several meals also today.
I still feel that we are in a testing period before this ministry changes again, we have been under extreme pressure from all sides, we must stay the course that He on most high placed us on, not an easy path but one I am only too happy to serve in.
I could take easier paths but you see His was is not the easy way as the path is very narrow and only a few do not fall off, we must do His will and not the will of the Worlds. I had one person indicate that he was so tired of all the news being bad, but you see the times that we are in are only going to get harder and harder as we push forward towards the day in which He delivers us. Yes the birth pains will easy some in-between but they are going to be tougher and tougher, harder and harder, will you stand or will you do the easy thing?
Please keep us in prayer and help if you can,

Prison weekly for Shabbat Shevat 5,5770

Shalom

This weeks Parsha's are for Shabbat Shevat 5,5770

This Weeks Parsha's Torah Yitro "Jethro" Exodus 18:1-20:23 Haftarah Isaiah 6:1-7:6, 9:5-6, Brit Hadasha Matthew 5:17-32

Yitro

This week's parasha is called Yitro, which is the Hebrew way to say Jethro. It refers, not to a hillbilly from Tennessee, but to the Midianite father-in-law of Moses. It encompasses the text from Exodus 18:1 through 20:23. Of course, the most significant part of this reading is the text that gives us the Ten Commandments; however, that is not our focus this week. Obviously, these should always be our primary focus, but I will draw my teaching from some more overlooked aspects of the text. Exodus 18:12 tells us "And Jethro, Moses' father-in-law, brought a burnt offering and sacrifices for G-d;" This indicates that Jethro, although a Priest to the gods of the land of Midian, became a follower of the One True G-d of Israel. This was an incredible example of a Gentile coming to faith in G-d; and not just a Gentile man, but a leader of those who worship a foreign god. May this example soon be followed by many who today lead millions to worship Allah, Buddha and the myriad of Hindu gods. Please do not overlook that the terrible loss of life in the recent Tsunami were almost all worshipers of false gods. Do not miss the fact that G-d does not change and He requires those whom He created to worship only Him, according to the first of His Ten Words given in this week's Torah portion. Yes, we must pray for those whose lives were spared and do whatever we can to make their lives return to whatever normal may become for them, but we must, first and foremost, do as Moses did; we must be an example to them of what following the True G-d looks like so they may know Him as we do. Chapter 19 contains this, beginning in verse 3, "and Moses went up to G-d. The Lord called to him from the mountain, saying, "Thus shall you say to the house of Jacob and declare to the children of Israel: 'You have seen what I did to the Egyptians, how I bore you on eagles' wings and brought you to Me. Now then, if you will obey Me faithfully and keep My covenant, you shall be My treasured possession among all the peoples. Indeed, all the earth is Mine, but you shall be to Me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.' These are the words that you shall speak to the children of Israel." Moses came and summoned the elders of the people and put before them all that the Lord had commanded him. All the people answered as one, saying, "All that the Lord has spoken we will do!" And Moses brought back the people's words to the Lord." The people were terrified to hear the voice of G-d speak to them directly, so they begged Moses to go hear from Him and tell them what to do. You know, many Christians are just like the children of Israel. For one reason or another, we really don't want to seek G-d on our own, preferring to have a pastor or teacher seek His word and just bring us the Cliff Notes! The ancient Rabbis tell us that the people heard the first three commandments themselves and grew more and more afraid with each word. But, even in their shrinking back, they made a declaration that assured them of their position with HaShem. They said, in chapter 20, verse 16, they said to Moses, " we will obey; but let not God speak to us, lest we die." They agreed to obey, even before they heard what the L-rd would command, but His power was so awesome that they knew they really had no choice but to do what He instructed.

Now, thirty five hundred years later, we have complete knowledge of what He instructed them and us to do. We have multiple translations, commentaries, sermon notes and instruction available on the radio, television, online and even in books; yet we still do whatever we can to avoid doing the one thing that Israel agreed to do, even before they knew what was coming. We do not obey His instruction to us! Rather, we twist and turn in the wind of every new revelation and doctrine. Mathew 5: 17 says, " "Do not think that I came to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I did not come to abolish but to fulfill." We have been told since we could sit up straight in Sunday School that Jesus "fulfilled" the Law, so we do not have to live "under" its restrictions. But, what did the Master really mean? He gives example after example in the following text of how His Hebrew mind thought about fulfillment. Read verses 21 through the end of the chapter and you will see how He enlarges the requirements of Torah to include not just the letter of the law, but its intention as well. He expands the sin of adultery and of murder to include lust and hatred. He taught His followers then, as well as us now, that the requirements of His commandment are forever our duty to obey. Let's go back to verses 18 to 20. There, we find His words, ""For truly I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not the smallest letter or stroke shall pass from the Law until all is accomplished. 'Whoever then annuls one of the least of these commandments, and teaches others to do the same, shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but whoever keeps and teaches them, he shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven. 'For I say to you that unless your righteousness surpasses that of the scribes and Pharisees, you will not enter the kingdom of heaven.'" The clear word of the L-rd is that not the smallest bit of the Torah has passed away and shall not until it is all accomplished. And, no, His last words, "It is finished" could not have applied to this completion, for if all Torah was accomplished in His first coming, for what shall He return? Today, anyone who teaches Christians their responsibility to live according to Torah is called a legalist. Y'shua called him "great in the kingdom of heaven." Those whose churches are filled with happy, comfortable folks, "doing their own thing" are, according to the word of the Messiah, "least in the kingdom of heaven." He goes on to tell us that our righteousness must greater than that of the scribes and Pharisees. Not His righteousness, imparted to us by faith, He said that our righteousness must exceed that of some of the most careful Torah observant followers of G-d to ever walk the earth.

Dear friends, please do not neglect the word of the L-rd. He is speaking to you in ways that you may never have experienced before. When He speaks, you must not only listen, but you must obey. You must decide ahead of hearing from Him that you will follow His instruction and walk in the way He leads, no matter where that may take you. I realize, as I am writing this that I am talking to myself, but you are welcome to listen in! The L-rd has been showing me some new things that He has called me to develop that will challenge everything I have ever considered as part of our ministry. He is leading me into some new arenas that will shake up my comfort zone and stretch me beyond anything I have ever done before. He is calling me to allow Him to get me out of the way and allow Him to do things in me and through me that could change the church like nothing has in the past 100 years. I will tell you more within the next month or two. In the meantime, please pray that I will hear His voice and will follow Him closely. Chapter 20 continues with the giving of the Decalogue, and concludes with these observations: "All the people witnessed the thunder and lightning, the blare of the horn and the mountain smoking; and when the people saw it, they fell back and stood at a distance. 'You speak to us,' they said to Moses, 'and we will obey; but let not G-d speak to us, lest we die.' Moses answered the people, 'Be not afraid; for G-d has come only in order to test you, and in order that the fear of Him may be ever with you, so that you do not go astray.' So the people remained at a distance, while Moses approached the thick cloud where G-d was." Psalm 27: 7 & 8 says "Hear, O L-rd, when I cry with my voice, and be gracious to me and answer me. When You said, 'Seek My face,' my heart said to You, "Your face, O L-rd, I shall seek." Now is the time, dear friends for us all to seek His face.
May His Face be seen by us all, clearly and soon. Keep praying. Marty

Mission Update:

Greetings, I just got off the phone; I was talking with a man about trying to find someplace for a woman and two children to stay. The woman has a job and at pay day she will rent something even a motel. The Problem is the only shelter she could find open that would take her children could not tell her what to do with he 2 year old when she went to work, I am unsure about the other child, so her choices are really none, they said put the children in the children's home till she got a place but if she does the state will make a case on her and she could lose the children. What was she going to do? Quit her job then make matters worse? Well I could not find her an answer but prayers for her and her children, please add them to your list. Over and over I have said that the people that are homeless are not all bums and drug addicts. The theory that they are there because they want to be is also a farce, maybe less than 30% are that way. When Katrina hit the people cried because Wichita was going to house some of them making a emergency shelter, the said "Are we not good enough, are we just non people?" Donations went way down then too, it was a little easier to stay open then because we were just in a storefront. I am so glad that we America have went to the aid of our neighbors but at the cost of hurting our own people? I have searched the net to see if others are having problems of course they are. One of my good friends who have a ministry is in the same boat as I am because of donations not coming in that normally do. I look to the faces of the people that came today saying, I need depends (adult diapers) for a 75 year old, I need cold medication, do you have that coat, so many people so many needs, my heart is breaking having such a hard time to ful-fill there needs, you see a real pastor hurts when the sheep hurts and these people were appointed to me, one of my callings from my Father…….. SO now when I ask for prayers I am not asking you for money that is between you and the Father, I am asking you for deep serious honest prayers…….. In His Perfect Peace, Pastor Dan Catlin

Wow how fast time goes 2010 is off and running. I just paid a few of the bills and I have the phone bills left for last month that are 344.48 to pay and then this months begin coming due. The electric bills came due yesterday so by monday i will more than likely have shut offs. the newsletter hasn't been done yet because there is no way we can do it with the burden of all these bills. I need right at 2300.00 by the 10th to pay what id due on that date. Yahweh will provide will you be one He uses to help this ministry to do his works. well I went to another doctor yesterday for a second opinion on my tail bone and it seems my doctor wasn't completey truthful with me about the findings of the xrays. The radiogist recommened an MRI to futher study my sacrum an coccyx. This is where the tailbone connects to the hip which explains all the hip pain I am having. Anyway my now X doctor's assisting doctor's nurse decided to tell me that it was broken and because there was no treatment for a broken tail bone an MRI would be to expensive to do so she told me to take advil and sit on a pillow and just let it heal 3-4 weeks. My new doctor decided to wait two weeks to see if the pain eased up any and then go from there. I also have psyical therpy to help make sure it is healing correctly. I'm doing ok just in a lot of pain pray for me. Our daughter Sarina is getting married next sabbath at messiah's branch so I've been really busy with her planning and getting ready. Thank you all who have been supporting us and continue to do so even throughout the hard finicial crisis we've all been struggling with. I;ve gotta close for now it's time to go care for the people,

Preaching the Hebrew Prayer in Prison
It was nice to visit but I wouldn't want to live there!

Last December I spoke in a Florida state prison on the Hebrew origins of the Lord's Prayer. I had never been inside a prison before so I was quite nervous. Mike Harrell, who runs a prison-motorcycle ministry called "Born Again to Ride", invited me to do this event with him. Mike goes into prisons all over Florida with a large assortment of Harleys and other loud motorcycles and then puts on a rock concert. The idea of "Born Again to Ride" is that inmates who would never otherwise be interested in God are drawn to the motorcycles and the music. When Mike first suggested I do a prison event with him, I warned him that I don't know how to operate a motorcycle and don't play any musical instruments. He assured me that my prison event wouldn't involve any motorcycles or Christian rock bands. Instead I would be speaking at a weekly Bible study. The prisoners who
participate in this sort of Bible study have already "cleaned up their act" and dedicated their lives to God. I would be there to teach on the Hebrew background of the New Testament to give them a deeper knowledge of the faith they already embraced. I jumped at the challenge and asked Mike to arrange it. Weeks later when we finally pulled up to the prison compound I started to think I had made a mistake. The prison looked like an Israeli border fortification, surrounded by a high chain-link fence with plenty of razor-wire and watch towers at regular intervals. We had to go through several layers of gates and steel doors to get to the main entrance area where a guard searched our bags and our bodies for any contraband. We were
then led down a series of hallways each of which ended in a steel door opened by an unseen guard in a control room somewhere. After about 10 minutes of this we finally arrived in the prison chapel where I set up my laptop and projector. The prisoners arrived about half an hour later. There were 30 inmates who came to the Bible study and a guard followed them in to
do a head count before locking us into the chapel and leaving. One prisoner in the front row saw my computer and asked excitedly if it was really a "laptop". He explained he'd "been inside" for 20 years and had never seen a laptop computer except in the movies. As I introduced myself and the subject I realized I was locked in with Mike, the prison chaplain, and 30 convicted inmates; there was no guard anywhere to be seen! Despite my apprehensions, I was very pleased with how my message was received and later said to Mike that I especially enjoyed having a "captive audience". As I presented the information, the inmates would often interrupt me with questions. I usually ask my audiences to leave their questions to the end. But I realized these men probably have few opportunities to express themselves so I decided to answer their questions
as they came. Instead of just spitting back answers, I opened a dialogue with them. As they would ask questions I would respond - in a Jewish way - by asking questions of my own, in order to challenge them to think. As I interacted with the inmates, I was extremely impressed by their knowledge of Scripture and Hebrew. Mike later explained that prisoners have lots of time on their hands; those that dedicate their lives to God spend much of this time studying. One example that really stood out for me was when I asked them, in response to one of their questions, if they knew the Hebrew meaning of the name "Jesus". The prisoner in the front row who had asked me about my laptop blurted out: "It means `Yahweh saves'". I was surprised that a convicted criminal who had never seen a laptop before knew something that most Christians do not know. I asked him how he knew this and he told me he studies for hours on end with his Bible, a Strong's Concordance and a Hebrew
dictionary. This reminded me of a letter written by William Tyndale, one of the first people to translate the Bible into English. At the time, translating the Bible was a crime and Tyndale was eventually burned at the stake for his efforts. As Tyndale sat in the dungeon of Vilvoorde Castle awaiting execution, he wrote to his jailers asking for:"a warmer cap. permission to have a candle in the evening, for it is wearisome to sit alone in the dark. But above all, I entreat and beseech your clemency to be urgent with the Procurer that he may kindly permit me to have my Hebrew Bible, Hebrew Grammar, and Hebrew Dictionary, that I may
spend my time with that study." I went into that Florida state prison fearing for my life but went out genuinely inspired by the dedication of these men to search out the truth and acquire knowledge even under the most difficult of human circumstances.

Pictures of my lecture at the Florida state prison are posted on the website of the book "A Prayer to Our Father: Hebrew Origins of the Lord's Prayer":http://www.aprayertoourfather.com/preaching-in-prison/ Nehemia Gordon Jerusalem, Israel
