Pridon weekly for Sabbath Shevat 6, 5769
Ok let me just say that this weekly newsletter is for you. It is meant to give you some kind of contact with the outside world and to prayerfully draw you into a closer relationship with Father Yahweh. It is nothing personal it is meant to connect you to Yahweh and to give you some since of what we are doing at Messiah's Branch. I will not write any personal letters or confide any of my personal life with any of you. The reason I am writing this is there are a few of you who have written wanting me to come visit or do personal things for you. Pastor Dan has stomped his foot and told me to set the record straight. If any of you are wanting more out of this than that then I will have to remove you from my mailing. We do love you and pray you will find peace in Yeshua.

Torah Parshas Bo "Come" Exodus 10:1-13:16
A Jolt of -Oy Gevalt! And HASHEM hardened the heart of Pharaoh and he did not send out the Children of Israel. (Shemos 10:20) At first, "And Pharaoh's heart hardened" (Shemos 8:15) and in the end "And HASHEM hardened the heart of Pharaoh". Why is that so? That is according to what Reish Lakish says, "He who comes to contaminate is opened up for."…Once a person desires badness he is tripped up from heaven. (Pesikta Zuta) Why did HASHEM harden Pharaoh's heart? Doesn't that interfere with his free will? Now we know why HASHEM did so. Pharaoh hardened his own heart and therefore HASHEM hardened it for him. By giving up control and abusing his free will he was made to lose control and he was denied free will. It was really all a testimony to Pharaoh's terminal stubbornness. He was perhaps the biggest denier of HASHEM that ever walked the good earth. The Kotzker Rebbe ztl. sardonically said that the "free thinkers" of these days believe that they are authentic scoffers, but their actions don't always support their claim. They are really deceiving themselves and others. Whenever they are visited by the slightest of tragedies or illness they immediately run to pray and petition G-d. Pharaoh, on the other hand, was a real scoffer. Nine plagues had already landed on the heads of Egypt and each with a clear warning with precise detail as to how it would unfold being fulfilled. Still Pharaoh not only refused to yield but he resisted in believing. The Torah tells us, "And it was at midnight and HASHEM smote every first born in the Land of Egypt from the first born of Pharaoh that sits on the throne until the first born of the captive who was in the dungeon and all the first born animals. And Pharaoh got up that night (from his bed: Rashi) and all his servants and all of Egypt and there was a great outcry throughout all of the Land of Egypt and there was no house in which there was not there a death. He called to Moshe and Aaron at night and said, "Rise up, go out from among my people, even you, even the Children of Israel; Go and serve HASHEM as you have spoken!""(Shemos 12:29-31) The Kotzker takes note that Pharaoh himself was a first born and he had heard directly all of Moshe's warnings for the first nine plagues and amazingly the verse testifies "and Pharaoh got up…" that means that he went to sleep as if nothing unusual would be happening that night. This demonstrates that he was a real scoffer. He saw the truth staring him in the face and yet he remained unaffected.
On the flip side the sages tell us, "One who comes to purify gets help!" As opposed to the one who seeks impurity who finds an open door, the one who truly desires holiness gets wind in his sails. Avraham Avinu after nine increasingly difficult tests is faced with the ultimate. He is asked to bring his son Yitzchok as a burnt offering. It was Yitzchok he waited for till one hundred years of age and in whom he had sewn wisdom for thirty-seven years. There too the Torah tells us, "And Avraham arose in the morning…" (Breishis 22:3) That implies also that he went to sleep the night before the fateful journey. That too is amazing! With increasing clarity and intensity he learned over the course of a lifetime to look truth in the face and embrace it. Therefore he accepted his destiny with perfect calm. Oddly, from the outside, the Baal Bitachon- the Master of Trusting G-d, and the bum can look hauntingly similar. Both are sleeping peacefully. What's the real difference? One goes to sleep comforted by truth while the other is sedated, in a fantasy- a bubble, at risk of being awakened by a jolt of -oy gevalt
This week's haftorah reflects the painful reality that people do not learn from the past and history will undoubtedly be repeated. The setting is the Babylonian destruction of the Egyptian Empire. The prophet Yirmiyahu states in the name of Hashem, "I will direct my attention to the multitudes of Alexandria and to Pharaoh and all of Egypt...I will deliver them into the hands of their killer, Nebuchadnezar, the King of Babylonia." (46: 25,26) The Radak explains that these passages refer to a massive massacre predicted for Egypt and her Pharaoh. Radak reminds us that the Egyptian people have a long history of hostility towards the Jewish nation. After an extended period of calm following her devastation at the Sea of Reeds, Egypt resumed her hostility towards her Jewish neighbors. It resurfaced during the reign of the Egyptian premier, Shishak, who invaded the Land of Israel shortly after the demise of Shlomo Hamelech. During this vulnerable Jewish era, Shishak forced his way into Israel and cleared out the treasury of the king. Our Chazal (quoted in Rashi's commentary to M'lochim I, 14-6) cite that Shishak even had the audacity of stealing the glorious throne of Shlomo Hamelech. Egypt continued her hostility towards Israel, and after receiving heavy sums from Israel in exchange for military protection, betrayed her Jewish "ally" and abandoned her. But Egypt's final crime came when Pharaoh N'cho executed the pious King Yoshiyahu because he refused to allow Pharaoh's army to enter Israel enroute to Assyria. Because of this full record, Hashem decided that the time had arrived to repay Egypt for all her cruelty. Although, in truth, she had previously received forty years of exile, apparently this was not sufficient treatment for her. This time, a massive massacre was being planned and an appropriate execution was awaiting her Pharaoh. With this, Hashem would remind Egypt of the very special relationship He maintained with the Jewish people. Hashem's historic lesson to the earlier Pharaoh was characterized in His opening statement that the Jews are "My son, My first-born" (Shmos4: 24). Through these words Hashem warned Egypt at the outset that her hostility toward His chosen nation would be repaid in full. And now, nearly a thousand years later, the time had come for Egypt to review this lesson. Egypt would soon be massacred in response to her cruelty and hostility towards Hashem's first born, the Jewish people. It is interesting to note the particular analogy Yirmiyahu uses when predicting the Babylonian army's invasion. He says "They cut down her forest, for the enemy could not be counted; they exceeded the locusts, beyond any imaginable limit." (46: 25, 26) Yirmiyahu compares the Babylonians to locusts invading the land in unimaginable proportions. In fact, he describes the totality of this massacre as even greater than the work of the locusts. This analogy seems to bring us back to the historic plague of locusts in this week's parsha. It suggests a corollary between the Egyptian plague in earlier times and the invasion of Egypt by the king Nebuchadnezar in later times.
The explanation of this may be gleaned from the insightful words of the Kli Yakar in this week's sedra. He notes the Torah's introduction to the plague of locusts and explains it through a shocking Egyptian phenomenon. The Torah introduces the plague and states, "I have hardened the hearts of Pharaoh and his servants in order to place My signs in his midst. And for you to tell your children and grandchildren how I played with Egypt."(Shmos 10: 1, 2) "Why," asks the Kli Yakar, "was this introduction chosen for the plague of locusts and not for any other plague?" He responds by citing the testimony of Rabbeinu Chananel regarding an indisputable fact about the land of Egypt. Rabbeinu Chananel testifies that there has never been a locust invasion in Egypt since the massive plague of locusts sent to her by Hashem. Nowadays, even when all surrounding countries are infested with locusts these devouring insects will not penetrate the Egyptian borders. And if they remotely filter into Egypt they never destroy the existing crop.
He explains that this miraculous phenomenon was meant to serve as an everlasting testimony about the plague of locusts. In response to Moshe Rabbeinu's plea for the removal of locusts the Torah states, "There did not remain one locust throughout the entire Egyptian border." (Shmos 10:19) Apparently, this passage became an everlasting statement and from that point and on locusts would never remain in the land of Egypt. This indisputable testimony reminds the world of Hashem's harsh response to Egypt for all the cruelty she showed His chosen people. The plague of locusts therefore deserves a special introduction stating the purpose for all the plagues, to tell of their occurrence to our children. Because, in fact, the plague of locusts and its everlasting testimony were to serve as the perfect vehicle through which to remember Hashem's revelations in Egypt.
We now appreciate the perfect analogy of Yirmiyahu regarding the Babylonian invasion. The prophet was hinting to the fact that Egypt's attitude towards the Jewish people could not be condoned. They, more than anyone, should have anticipated the consequences of their cruel actions. The total absence of locusts from Egypt should have been a constant reminder to them of their past experiences for mistreating the Jewish people. Obviously no one could claim that Egypt hadn't been fairly warned. However, typically, people do not learn their lesson and history must undoubtedly be repeated. If the historic plague of locusts was not a sufficient reminder for them, then the present Babylonian "locusts" would do the trick. Hashem therefore ordered a full scale massacre for Egypt to repeat their earlier experience. They would once again realize that the Jewish people are very dear to Hashem and hostility towards them is certainly not a welcomed policy. Eventually Hashem will protect His people and respond to all hostility in a most befitting fashion. Rosh Kollel of Kollel Toras Chaim of Kiryat Sefer, Israel

Mission Updates:
Mark 9:23 Yeshua said unto him, If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth.
Matthew 6:25 25Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment? 26Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they? 27 Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit unto his stature? 28And why take ye thought for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin: 29And yet I say unto you, That even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. 30Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which to day is, and to morrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith? 31Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed? 32(For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things. 33But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. 34Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.
Today was a day of many mixed feelings, I will try and explain by giving you just a few of the statements given to me.... "I just had a miscarriage last night can you help with a prescription?"
"Can you help with my migraine meds?"
" I just got a food box Tuesday, I know I can only get one a week, but I have little ones at home?"
"I just got here from California, it was 70% there, do you have a hat and gloves"
"Do you have any night time cold meds?"
" Got anything for a upset stomach"
the list goes on and of course many prayers were given also. We really need donations for food and most everything, badly I need to raise $900 for bills a $100 for the food bank and at least another $300 for food boxes as well as pray in meat for dinners....we continue to serve many plates a day and generally 10 to 12 dozen egg sandwiches daily. With out doing as Messiah says and dealing with today today them we would be overwhelmed!
Lift us in prayer and help if you can, Have a great Sabbath, Pastor Dan Catlin
Romans 1:17 17For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith. 18For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness;
Joshua 24:15 15And if it seem evil unto you to serve the LORD, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.
As the pastor looked at His family he again realized that just about 20 years ago a miracle happened and he met Messiah. In child-hood he had went forward and asked Jesus-Christ to be his Lord and savior at a summer bible school. He prayed to him all his life knowing that he was there even when he was the worst of the worst out-laws, then came that day when he looked into a mirror realizing that the person he saw was not the person he ever wanted to be. At that place in time he again prayed and cried, this time something was different, he seem more alive and awake that ever before. He realized that the Dream of becoming the ultimate out-law Biker was only a way to be a servant of the Devil and not a servant of Yahweh, his real Father….Yes a miracle…At that point he realized money and lifestyle meant nothing only the things of His Father mattered. Of course Satan did not give up that easy and tried to put the Pastor in jail for 25 years but the Pastor held onto his faith only asking of His Father that he be allowed to raise His family and all other time would be given to The Father's work…..The years were truly a test, following His Father's way in real truth and spirit put him very alone, you see he read his Bible and went from church to church seeking the people of the book. Outcast from the world and not fitting into the many churches he kept his word to the Father, the more obedient he became to the word the more blessed he was, not in money but blessed in a way only the real people of The Father know. Then that day came that the Father spoke to him and Said "You are my minister" the pastor remembered the promise given. With no money but faith the pastor got up out of his bed doctors had tried to place him and in and went forth to serve. Now almost 20 years later, he is still the brokest man on the block, but in heavenly terms he is rich beyond measure, having forsaken the devils ways he was given a family and even a ministry, yes a minsitry as he laugh's at how he told the Father to give him a broom and he would sweep up the kingdom of heaven..something he had heard another man of God say and he laughed at just how it worked....the ministry was now in it's 9th year of caring for the poor with no money....Yes the Pastor again looks at his family all gathered in the small house with wood stove warming everyone, laughing at the holes in the floor and yet thankful so thankful that he has a roof….and of course a wonderful family. Snapping back to reality the Pastor looks outside to the snow coming down and for a moment wonders where the money will come in the morning to care for the people The Father has entrusted him to care for will come from. Poor and the homeless that will count on his family the next day… but then he remembers that it is The Father's family and the Father's work, so for tomorrow there is no worry by faith all things come….with that another log is placed on the fire with tomorrow's troubles….. Be Blessed, Pastor Dan Lift us in prayer and help if you can......
Matthew 7:6-8 Give not that which is holy unto the dogs, neither cast ye your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn again and rend you. 7 Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you: 8 For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.
